Identifying Adverbs
Adverbs of frequency answer the question “how frequently” or “how often.” They explain how frequently or how often something happens.
They are of two types:
Type of Adverb |
Definition |
Example |
Adverbs of Definite Frequency |
These adverbs tell us exactly how often something occurs. |
We hold a book club meeting monthly. The adverb “monthly” tells us exactly how often the book club meets. |
Adverbs of Indefinite Frequency |
Although these adverbs give us an idea about how often something occurs, they DO NOT give an exact time frame. |
My baby sister always cries when she is hungry. The adverb “always” does not tell us the exact time frame. |
