Prime and Composite Numbers - Whole Numbers Game

In our daily life, we come across numbers many times. Based on the factors, we can divide numbers into two categories: prime and composite. However, there is an exception, the number 1 is neither prime nor composite. This is a car racing game designed for kids to reinforce the concept of prime and composite numbers. The game has three levels based on the range of numbers. So, kids go ahead and play this interesting racing game.

Prime Numbers

What are Prime Numbers?

Prime numbers are whole numbers above 1 that have no factors other than one and themselves. They cannot be made by multiplying other numbers.

(Numbers made by multiplying are called Composite Numbers.)

How can you tell if a number is prime?

If a number cannot be divided into groups with equal numbers, then it only has two factors - one and itself.

What are examples of Prime Numbers?

Here is a Hundred Number Chart with the Prime Numbers highlighted in red.

When you multiply prime numbers together, you create a composite number.
For example,
2
prime
x 3
prime
= 6
composite

Why are prime numbers studied?

The number gurus love prime numbers because they are building blocks for all whole numbers. What is fascinating is that the entire number line can be formed by using only prime numbers, but not vice versa. For example, see how we get to ten…
1
prime
2
prime
3
prime
4
2 x 2
5
prime
6
2 x 3
7
prime
8
2 x 2 x 2
9
3 x 3
10
2 x 5

Using only 2, 3, and 5, we are able to count from 1 to 10. This gets number theorists excited! They are very important for factorization, important in a number of other fiends of study.
