# Decimals Expressed in Words

To write decimals in words, follow these steps:

1. Write the digits to the left of the decimal point in words as a whole number.

2. Write ‘and’ for the decimal point.

3. Write the digits to the right of the decimal point in words as a whole number, followed by the place value of the last digit.

If the whole number part is zero, then write the digits to the right of the decimal point as a whole number, followed by the place value of the last digit.

To write a decimal number in digits, use the place value chart and follow these steps:
1. Write the digits of the whole number part.
2. Place the decimal point.
3. Write the digits of the fractional part.

Use zeros to maintain proper place values. The last digit should be in the place named in the word form.

For example:

• 2.08 is written in words as two and eight hundredths.
• Five hundred one and three hundredths is written in numerals as 501.03.
